No trains run on Christmas Day and few on 26 December; Monday 28 December is the bank holiday. The Euston line closures booked before Christmas, and what's due.
There will be no trains from Leighton Buzzard on Christmas Day, and very few anywhere on Saturday 26 December. National Rail has published the shape of the 2026 holiday, but London Northwestern Railway, which runs Leighton Buzzard’s trains to Euston and Milton Keynes, has not yet published its Christmas timetable, and Network Rail has not yet named its Christmas engineering work on the West Coast Main Line. This page has what is confirmed, what happened last year, and the line closures already booked for the weeks before Christmas.
The quick answer
- Friday 25 December: no trains anywhere on the National Rail network.
- Saturday 26 December: most operators run nothing; a “very limited” service by a few operators is still to be confirmed. The Boxing Day bank holiday falls on Monday 28 December.
- Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve: expect early finishes. National Rail publishes the last trains from London in late November or early December.
What National Rail has confirmed for 2026
National Rail’s travel summary covers Thursday 24 December 2026 to Monday 4 January 2027. It says: (National Rail, Christmas and New Year 2026/27)

It adds that train companies’ own Christmas details will be added “from the beginning of October onwards”, and that the major engineering projects will be listed “when available”. So far the only one it names is at Birmingham New Street, closed for major work from Thursday 24 to Monday 28 December. That does not affect trains between Leighton Buzzard and London, but it does affect any journey north through Birmingham.
What happened last Christmas
The last two Christmases both brought engineering work on the Leighton Buzzard line itself, so it is worth planning for some this year too.
- 2025. London Northwestern Railway told passengers of “vital track upgrades near Milton Keynes between 27 Dec – 5 Jan”, with rail replacement buses “on some routes to and from London Euston”. Its sister company West Midlands Railway said there would be no trains on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and early finishes on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. - 2024. Network Rail advised anyone using Euston on the West Coast Main Line to travel “before Tuesday 24 December or after Thursday 2 January”. Most of its work was done while the railway was closed from Christmas Eve until the morning of 27 December, but there was an amended service between Watford and Milton Keynes, which is the stretch Leighton Buzzard sits on, from 1 to 4 January 2025. Line closures already booked before Christmas
National Rail’s engineering list already has these dates on the Euston line between now and the end of November. Check them if you are planning a London trip for Christmas shopping or a show.

Getting to the station, and parking in town
The council has not published any Christmas parking offer for Leighton Buzzard’s car parks as of 25 September. Our parking in Leighton Buzzard page has the charges and the car parks that close early, and the roadworks page lists the road closures that affect the run to the station.
If you are coming into town on the evening of Friday 27 November, note that the High Street is closed for the Christmas lights switch-on.
