Elm Lodge residents in Leighton Buzzard have spent eight weeks on seated SHUFFLER exercise. Bedfordshire Care Group reviews the results on 6 November.
Residents of Elm Lodge, the care home on Stoke Road in Leighton Buzzard, are coming to the end of an eight-week project to improve how steadily and confidently they move. The final session is on Friday 6 November, when the results will be reviewed.
The project has been run by Bedfordshire Care Group, an association that supports care providers across Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes, with James Kelly, founder of the SHUFFLER board, a seated exercise device.
What the group says
In its own words, the group has spent the past eight weeks “working closely with James Kelly, founder of the Shuffler Board and a local care home (Elm Lodge), on a project aimed at improving residents’ mobility, stability, and confidence when mobilising.”
Of the last session, it said: “We will be holding our final session on 6 November, where we will review the outcomes of the project and celebrate the progress made by those who have taken part.”
The group describes it as “the fantastic work being undertaken within our local community”, and has invited Leighton Buzzard News to the final session. We will report what the review finds.

What the SHUFFLER is
The board is sold by James Kelly’s company, Trainor Jim. Its health and social care page describes it as “a portable seated exercise device designed to help people build gentle lower-limb movement into daily routines”, used from a chair, sofa or wheelchair, with no screens or installation.
The company says it can be used in care home lounges and bedrooms, in group activity sessions or one to one, and that it was used in an eight-week community programme with Romney Marsh Community Hub in Kent. The same page states that the board “is exercise equipment intended for general fitness and wellbeing” and “is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent medical conditions.”
