Leighton-Linslade Town Council holds its Last Night of the Proms in Parson’s Close Recreation Ground on Saturday 12 September. Entry is free. Films run in the afternoon, the live music starts at 7pm, and the night ends with fireworks. (Leighton-Linslade Town Council)
It is the last event of the council’s summer programme. The council says the fireworks bring that programme “to a close”.
The running order
The council’s own event page gives the day as:
- from 12pm: Films in the Park, with Back to the Future and Wicked: For Good
- 2pm: the second screening, alongside activities and entertainment
- 7pm: the Proms evening opens at the bandstand
- just after 9pm: a live screening of the BBC’s Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall
- to 10.30pm: a low-level firework display closes the night
The council does not say which of the two films runs first. Its event panel lists the films as starting “from 12pm” and names 2pm in the description, so treat the individual film times as unconfirmed until the council publishes them.
Who is playing
Local singer and soprano Lissie Allsopp opens the evening with what the council calls her Best of British set, a selection of British songs. The Bedfordshire Band of the Royal British Legion follows with a brass programme of traditional favourites and Proms classics. The live BBC broadcast takes over just after 9pm.
A bar runs through the evening. The café is open for snacks and refreshments, and the council says facilities are available throughout the day.
What else is open
Parson’s Close is the town’s main park and one of six Leighton-Linslade sites holding a 2026 Green Flag Award. The council says these will be open all day:
- the Splash & Play area
- the accessible adventure playground
- the beach
- the café
So the afternoon works as a park visit whether or not you stay for the music.
The council asks people to bring flags, dress in red, white and blue, and pack a picnic.
What it means for you
It is free. The council’s listing gives admission as “Free!” and names no ticketing, which is unusual for an evening with live music, a big-screen broadcast and fireworks. Expect the park to be busy.
Do not use the West Street multi-storey for the evening. It is open 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday, so it shuts at the moment the Proms begin. The four surface car parks, Baker Street, Duncombe Drive, Hockliffe Street and New Road, publish hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, so their restrictions have lifted by the evening. 12 September is also a market day. Leighton Buzzard Market runs on the High Street every Tuesday and Saturday, 8.30am to 3pm, so it overlaps with Films in the Park. The town centre car parks fill early on market Saturdays.
